Denville, NJ (9/28/09) – The Morris County School of Technology wins gold medals at National SkillsUSA Competition for the first time!
Dan Odomirok, who is from Dover and Dan Pise, who is from Lincoln Park, students in the Academy of Networking Information Technology and Communications, recently represented the state of New Jersey and Morris County School of Technology in the SkillsUSA National Competition – and they brought home GOLD. Their win marks the first time that Morris County School of Technology has won a gold medal at the national level of the high school competition.
Their winning entry, a promotional video that Odomirok and Pise created the concept for, directed, filmed, and edited promotes the academy programs at Morris County School of Technology. It features vignettes of the different academies with a voiceover that the students scripted and recorded. In addition, while at the competition which is held in Kansas City, Missouri, the students had to create storyboards to promote their video and were given a formal written test on video/film production.
In order for Odomirok and Pise to be able to compete in the National competition, their video was selected as the best in New Jersey at the statewide competition.
“The National SkillsUSA Competition is the Academy Awards for career and technical education and I am proud and thrilled that Dan and Dan won the Gold Medal,” said Dale Bendsak, their filmmaking instructor. “They are creative, focused and put a lot of hard work into creating this project- and it shows.”
