MORRIS COUNTY SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY

Students in the Academy for Culinary Arts Share Expertise

Students in the Academy for Culinary Arts at the Morris County School of Technology (MCST) had the opportunity to work with students in the Life Skills program at Vernon Township High School. MCST students demonstrated a lesson on professional baking and discussed the various career opportunities and higher education programs available upon graduation.

Vernon students were able to observe and participate in a mini baking lesson and also view the professional baking equipment used in the industry. This helpful session will provide the students in the Life Skills Program with additional baking techniques that can be applied to the restaurant service at their school.

The Life Skills program at Vernon Township High School engages students in practical activities to develop the proficiency necessary to function in the home, the community and the work environment. The students participate in a classroom based restaurant service in which they bake and prepare a variety of products, which are sold to the school community.

The Academy for Culinary Arts at the Morris County School of Technology is a full-time, four-year high school program for students with specific interests in the areas of culinary arts, baking, and pastry. Students specialize in a variety of academy courses such as Sanitation and Food Handling, Nutrition, American Regional Cuisine, International Cuisine, and Restaurant Management. The highly-focused hands on program prepares students for post-secondary studies or careers in such areas as the hospitality industry, hotel or restaurant chef, pastry chef and baking. ###
