Cyber Citizenship
Course Description: Welcome to the childhood of the 21st century!
It is very likely that instead of roaming the playground your children/students
now roam the Internet, daily! There are few places an individual can be
more readily noticed than on the Internet. The nature of the Internet
has changed greatly over the years. Some changes have been good. Other
changes are less desirable, such as users' exploiting the resources of
the Internet without thinking about the consequences to others.
The Internet can be an exciting outlet for young people. With the keys
to cyberspace, they can search out and explore new places. They can find
all kinds of interesting information. They can tell jokes and share their
life with people all over the world. With all this cyber-fun, danger lurks
at every click of the mouse! Children need to learn how to protect themselves
from their own inexperience and trusting nature! They also need to learn
that the picture they posted of themselves online, doing really uncool
stuff that parents and teachers would not approve of, can be viewed not
only by predators, but by their grandparents and future employers!
We will explore some of the social networking sites and how to protect
your privacy while sharing information
