Content:

            The United States Mint 50 state quarters program

Learning Objective:

            The student will devise mnemonic device to remember order of thirteen original states to enter the union.  (study skills link and story method)

            The student will be able to connect the states to a whole---country

            The students will gain an understanding of reasons the government chose to issue the new state quarters.

            The students will observe real coins for similarities and differences.

            The students will construct and devise a Jefferson Quarter to enable comprehension of relevance of state symbols and significance.

Product:

            Create mnemonic device to remember the thirteen original states in the order they entered the Union – reconstruct order of states.

            Construction of a Jefferson Township Coin; student relevance

Process:

            The student will view Power Point presentation, internet visuals and overhead projection of quarters, participate in memory enhancing activity and group collaboration, construct a Jefferson Township Coin, followed by review and student questions of interest.
