Power Point Presentation

Overview: In this lesson, students explore the possibilities offered by the Power Point while learning to collect data using Educational software and the Internet.

Objectives: Students will use reference skills to locate information from a variety of sources, and organize their information into categories. They will design a three-slide Power Point presentation based on the collected information.

Curricular Connections: Science, Language Arts, and Art.

Grade Level: 5                              Classroom Duration: Two to four hours.

Materials: MS Power Point, A Field Trip to the Rainforest, A Field Trip to the Sea educational software, Internet web site: www.seaworld.org, chalkboard.

Procedure: Using a chalkboard display a list of categories necessary to investigate (a habitat, a diet, enemies, and attributes). Introduce educational software and a web site to the class; explain how to conduct a research about an animal. Have students collect their data and record it.

Introduce MS Power Point to the students using a ready-made presentation about an animal. Let students create their own presentations using previously collected information.

Closure: Preview several presentations; discuss the advantages of multimedia presentation over a simple written report.

Assessment: Students should be able to do the following: use different sources to conduct a research; design a layout of a slide and use simple animation in MS Power Point; and insert a picture into the slide.
