I have recently renovated my garage by converting it into a 2 bedroom suite for my sons. Between the two rooms is a "Chillin' Room" where the boys will watch television, play PlayStation, and listen to music. I am looking for an interior decorator to help me find the best paint, wallpaper, carpet, tile, and furniture. Your name has been given to me as a prospective decorator. As my interior decorator, I need you to choose colors, designs, styles, & products that will be most appropriate for boys that are 5 & 9 years old. I will need a list of your decisions along with a detailed price list. Please hurry as my sons are eagerly waiting to move in!!!
As my prospective interior decorator, you will need to examine the Scale Drawing in order to calculate the perimeter of the rooms and the area. Then you will need to choose products that you think would be best for my two sons and with the best prices for me. You will need to do the following to each of the rooms:
carpet/tile the floor
paint and/or wallpaper the walls and ceiling
choose furniture and accessories for decorating the rooms (including windows).
Remember, I will be looking for the appropriateness of the items you choose and the price. I want to get the very best deal possible. You will be required to give me a proposal of you suggestions that includes a detailed price list for all items with a description and picture. The price list must include unit prices, quantity needed, total prices, tax, and any applicable shipping & handling charges. You will put you proposal together as a PowerPoint presentation. Be creative and have fun!!!
In order to complete this task you will need to complete each of the steps listed below.
Look at the SCALE DRAWING
then fill in the DATA SHEET
by calculating the perimeter of each room and the area of each wall, ceiling,
and floor. Remember, when doing these calculations you will need to take into
consideration any doors and windows. Make sure you keep these dimensions handy
(print your data sheet), because you will need them when figuring the amount
of supplies you will need.
Research items & prices. (Look back at the TASK area for
information on what needs to be done). You will need to use the list of links
below. You may also check local stores and sales flyers as well.
Choose the products you want to include in your proposal. Make sure you list
where you chose the suggested items.
Put
you proposal together. Make sure your proposal includes the following:
all room dimensions
prices, descriptions, & pictures of all items, and
places to purchase the items.

CARPET & TILE |
PAINT & WALLPAPER |
FURNITURE |
MISC. |
The following rubric will be used in evaluating your proposal:
4 pts (A) - All dimension calculations & total prices are correct. All chosen items are appropriate for the age of the boys.
3 pts (B) - 90% of calculations (dimensions & prices) are correct. Most items are appropriate.
2 pts (C) - 70% of calculations (dimensions & prices) are correct. Most items are appropriate.
1 pt (D) - 50% of calculations (dimensions & prices) are correct. Some items are appropriate.
0 pt (F) - Less than 50% of calculations (dimensions & prices) are correct and most items are NOT appropriate.
After successfully completing this WebQuest, you will have applied your understanding of area & perimeter to a real-life situation. Not only have you used you mastery of linear & square measurement, but you have also calculated prices including taxes, shipping & handling. As a final step for this WebQuest, you need to respond to the following two items in the last slide of your PowerPoint presentation.
1) What are some of the things you liked about this project, and what are some of the things you disliked?
2) If you could go back and re-do this WebQuest, what would you do differently to make your proposal better?
Thank you for designing my new suite!
