Counseling Services
-
Our counseling department is committed to providing support services that promote the social, emotional, and academic growth for all students that sets the foundation for lifelong learning. We aim to assist students in mastering the developmental tasks to cope with critical life problems encountered during adolescence. A paramount goal of the counseling program is to provide students with experiences, opportunities and 21st century skills that prepare them to become productive members of society. Consistent with these goals, the primary objective of the counseling program is to assist students to:
- Acquire a realistic understanding of themselves and others.
- Resolve problems which interfere with learning.
- Develop positive interpersonal relationships.
- Become self-directive.
- Explore career pathways and opportunities for further education, vocational training, and/or employment.
- Become aware of graduation requirements and their levels of attainment.
- Maintain proper behavior and facilitate academic growth.
To assist students in accomplishing these objectives, school counselors, in conjunction with other professionals and parents, perform major functions such as:
- Provide individual and/or group counseling programs for all students.
- Work cooperatively with teachers, parents, and other important adults in the students’ lives.
- Collect information, including standardized test results about individual students, so that the data may be used to help each student benefit as much as possible from the educational program.
- Assist students to utilize personal, educational, career, and social materials so that they may learn more about themselves and the environment in which they live.
- Provide assistance to students which will enable them, upon leaving Morris County School of Technology, to continue a program of advanced education and/or to enter the world of work.
- Keep students informed of graduation requirements and their status in meeting these requirements.
We welcome your continued support of the counseling program. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
