Course Description
This marking period course is designed for Freshmen. Students will be able to make informed and educated decisions on sexual health, reproduction and sexual identity as evidenced through the use of tests, quizzes and cooperative activities. Students understanding of how life begins and how self-esteem and respect are essential characteristics to a healthy relationship will be demonstrated through using projects, including PowerPoint presentations and internet use.

1) Students must pass one marking period of health each year to graduate. Students who do not pass must go to summer school and successfully complete the class before the start of the next school year. 2) Attendance is important. If health class meets every other day, students are allowed 3 unexcused absences. If class meets every day, students are allowed 5 unexcused absences. Please see the Student Handbook for unexcused vs excused absences. If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to contact the teacher for any makeup work. Students making up work will have the same number of days equal to the time all other students had to complete the assignment. 3) Students are required to be on time and prepared (notebook, pen/pencil and daily worksheets). No food or drink (except plastic lid containers) is allowed in the classroom. Use of phones or electronic devices will not be allowed in class unless being used for class assignments. 4) Students are required to participate in classroom activities. Students will be required to work in groups and individually to complete various assignments throughout the marking period. When working together, each student will be held accountable for their contribution to the overall performance of the group. 5) Students will exhibit respect, not only to the teacher, but to fellow classmates, substitute teachers and to themselves. 6) The topics discussed in class will require everyone to act in a mature and responsible manner. 7) Be respectful and thoughtful of others and treat the subject responsibly

- Endocrine and Reproductive Systems
- Sexually Transmitted Infections
- Contraceptives
- Sexual Orientation
Any student whose parents/guardians present to the school a signed statement that any part of the instruction in family life is in conflict with their personal, religious or moral convictions shall be excused from that portion of the course where such instruction is being given, and no such student shall be penalized by loss of credit or denial of a diploma otherwise earned. In such instances, where parents have requested removal of their child from a portion of the family life instruction, the teacher shall provide an alternate assignment of equal weight and value and there will be no retribution whatsoever.
