Morris Tech Athletics Eligibility FAQ's

MCST Athletics Eligibility FAQ's:

Being a county vocational school with various tracks at the MCST Denville Campus (Full Time & Share Time) in addition to multiple satellites and the Career Training Center located at the County College of Morris in Randolph, there are some unique aspects to consider when determining a student's eligibility to participate in Athletics. In addition to the responses provided for your reference below, I encourage you to visit pages 35-36 of the 2025-26 NJSIAA Constitution linked here. The NJSIAA is the governing body for all high school sports in New Jersey and they set the rules for student eligibility. When in doubt, don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Devine at devinec@mcvts.org or 973-627-4600 ext. 231 to talk through your specific situation. Go Devils!

I am a Full Time MCST Denville student. Can I participate in MCST Athletics?

Yes, we encourage you to join and participate in the 14 Varsity athletics programs that we offer here on the MCST Denville campus.

I am a Full Time MCST Denville student. If you don't offer a sport that my home district does, how can I still participate for my home district?

If your home district offers a sport that we do not (i.e. Football, Field Hockey, Tennis, Lacrosse, Swimming, etc.) then you are eligible to participate for your home district in that sport.

I am a Full Time MCST Denville student. What if both MCST and my home district offer the same sport (i.e. Boys or Girls Soccer)? Would I be able to choose where I participate?

If BOTH your home district AND MCST offer the same sport then, as a Full Time student, you MUST play that sport for MCST.  You do not get a choice in this scenario.

I am a Share Time MCST Denville/CTC student. Can I participate in MCST Athletics?

Yes, we encourage you to join and participate in the 14 Varsity athletics programs that we offer here on the MCST Denville campus.  As a Share Time student, you benefit from having a CHOICE between participating with your home district athletics programs OR MCST programs.

I am a Share Time MCST Denville/CTC student. Would I be able to alternate my choice between home district and MCST athletics programs based upon each season?

It depends. If both your home school district AND MCST both offer the same sport and you exercise a CHOICE to participate in one over the other, then you are locked into participating for that choice for the remainder of the school year. Not your whole high school career, but that school year. Your choice resets at the end of the school year. The only exception is if the next season you wish to play a sport that is offered at your home school and not here at MCST.  For example, a Share Time student chooses to play soccer here at MCST and then wishes to play Ice Hockey at their home district. They can still do that because Ice Hockey is not offered at MCST.

I am an MCST student at a Satellite campus in Morris County. Can I participate in MCST Athletics?

Yes, but there are some important details to consider. If the satellite school location also happens to be your home school, then you are able to choose between home school/satellite and MCST when both offer the same program (i.e. Soccer or Basketball). That choice then locks you into participating for that school for the remainder of the school year unless a subsequent choice is made when a sport is offered at one location and not the other.

It gets interesting if you are an MCST student located at a Satellite campus in Morris County and that Satellite campus is NOT your home district. For example, you are a Roxbury resident attending the Business Administration Early College Academy at the Randolph High School satellite campus. In this scenario, your home district (Roxbury) is eliminated as a choice for you. You would have to choose between Randolph Athletics and MCST Athletics under the same guidelines outlined above.
