For the past 17 years I have proudly served as a Police Officer for the Township of Denville. During that time I was primarily assigned to the Patrol Division, where I developed my desire to take a more active role in the community. In 2013, I was assigned as the School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Morris County School of Technology (MCST). This was the first time that the School of Technology added a full-time police officer to serve as an SRO in their school.
Being the School Resource Officer for the Morris County School of Technology has provided me with a unique and challenging opportunity. While most of my primary duties are the safety and security of the school, students and staff, my role as an SRO has developed into much more than that. I have discovered that my presence at the school has afforded me the opportunity to be a mentor and positive role model for the students. I maintain an open door policy, where I encourage students to stop by my office to speak with me whenever it’s convenient. I have also had the pleasure to speak with students in the classroom setting, where I am invited to cover various law enforcement topics, such as: Constitutional and Criminal Law, Drug Awareness, Safe Driving, Law Enforcement Careers and the Dangers of Social Networking. I am also pleased to announce that MCST has been the forefront in the county for instituting advanced lockdown procedures known as A.L.I.C.E..
During my time as a member of the MCST family, I have developed a bond that extends outside of the school. I frequently attend after school activities, back to school nights, club meetings and even coach the Men’s Cross Country Team. This gives me the opportunity to not only develop a good rapport with the students, but also with their parents and staff here at the school.
