By Phone: (973)627-4600, X211 before 8:30 AM
When leaving a voicemail, please spell your student's name and provide the reason for the absence.
OR
Online: Genesis Parent Portal
Do not report an absence by email unless absolutely necessary, as it may be filtered as spam and not reach the office. Do not report absences to guidance.
Please note: Absences due to illness are only recorded as excused if a medical note is received or if our school nurse sent the student home with a fever. If a student has special accommodations, absences will be adjusted accordingly.
STEPS TO TAKE UPON RECEIVING AN ATTENDANCE LETTER
Step 1:
Go to Genesis > Attendance > Class Attendance > Scroll through each month to locate days you were absent. The number 1 will appear next to “Daily Attendance” in the date box where you were absent. Click here for a “how to” video.
Step 2:
Review the attendance policy below for the allowed number of absences in each class.
Course Type |
Number of Allowed unexcused Absences |

Please note that Physical Education attendance is based on three marking periods and Health attendance is based solely on one marking period.
After reviewing the above, if your child has not exceeded the allowed unexcused absences, then the attendance letter is only a warning and the following step might not be necessary.
If you have medical notes, or any other acceptable documentation, please send it to the attendance office and the student’s attendance may be amended per school policy. For more information on attendance and absences, see pages 21-28 of the Student/Parent Handbook.
Step 3: File an Appeal
If you have reviewed the above steps, and your student has exceeded the allowed unexcused absences, please contact LaToya Evans, Assistant Principal Of Students, to schedule an attendance appeal. She can be reached at 973-627-4600 x202.
