The goal of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC/R) course is to have the students begin to establish the core foundations for working in the HVAC/R field and build on this foundation through their two years in the program. 

In the classroom environment the students' individual learning needs will be taken into account during instruction. Some topics covered include general safety, theory of heat, basic refrigeration, basic electrical theory, various heating systems, applied math, materials and procedures. The students will demonstrate their understanding of these topics with written assignments, as well as class-based projects and hands-on practice

 

Morris County high school students in 10th grade may apply for their 11th and 12th-grade year.

Mr. Rey Gonzalez

Collectively, Mr. Gonzalez has accumulated over 30 years of exposure and experience between industry and teaching careers in the HVAC field.  His exposure began in his late teens working for family and then later transitioned to the private sector of the industry.  Following his in-the-field work he started teaching and has been doing so for over 18 years.  This experience has afforded him a strong instructional foundation to provide the necessary training for entry level technicians.

Overview of Program



Students attend the following sessions for this Share Time program

Year 1 Students: Morning Session 8:00 - 10:40 am
Year 2 Students: Afternoon Session 12:10 - 2:50 pm


Students earn: 20 Career and Technical Education credits per school year, Students can potentially earn EPA Section 608 Certification, A2L Refrigerant Certification, and Industry- recognized entry level certification

Students are required to:

  • Follow multi-step directions
  • Apply related math concepts
  • Act professionally and be able to follow safety procedures at all times
