Morris County Vocational School District Partners with Roxbury High School to Launch New Aviation Academy
Post
The Morris County Vocational School District is excited to announce a new full-time Academy for Aviation in partnership with Roxbury High School. This new academy is designed to meet the increasing need in the aviation industry for airline pilots, drone operators, and aircraft maintenance.
New Aviation Academy Launches to Meet Growing Industry Demand
With the aviation industry experiencing rapid growth, particularly in fields like airline piloting and drone operation, the Academy for Aviation aims to provide students with the tools and education they need to pursue these in-demand careers. The program will begin in the fall of 2025 and offers a specialized curriculum to meet industry needs.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Shari Castelli said, “We plan to empower students to soar beyond their limits. Whether they dream of piloting aircraft, mastering drones, or keeping planes in top condition, our hands-on program will help students’ careers take off. Partnering with local airports and colleges, the program will chart a course for the future of aviation education starting fall 2025.”
Aviation Training Focused on Pilots, Drone Operators, and Aircraft Maintenance
The Academy for Aviation, located at Roxbury High School, will provide students with comprehensive instruction in three main areas: Aircraft Pilot, Drone Pilot, and Aircraft Maintenance. Students will be prepared to sit for the Private Pilot written exam, earn their Part 107 drone license, and gain an introduction to aircraft maintenance and repair. The program emphasizes a hands-on approach to learning, helping students build practical and technical skills.
Comprehensive Curriculum Prepares Students for Aviation Certifications
Through a robust and focused curriculum, students will have the opportunity to engage in rigorous coursework, preparing them for essential aviation certifications. By the end of the program, students will be ready to take their Private Pilot written test, obtain the FAA Part 107 drone license, and have foundational experience in aircraft maintenance, opening doors to numerous career paths.
Partnership with Roxbury High School Brings Aviation Education to Local Students
This new academy represents a collaboration between the Morris County Vocational School District and Roxbury High School. By working together, these institutions aim to provide high school students with access to cutting-edge aviation education close to home. Students attending the Academy for Aviation will receive in-depth instruction in aviation-related fields while fulfilling the New Jersey State Department of Education’s academic requirements.
Hands-on learning with Industry Leaders and Cutting-Edge Technology
Students will benefit from partnerships with industry leaders, educational institutions, and organizations, providing them access to real-world experiences and state-of-the-art technology. Guest speakers from the aviation industry will further enrich the student’s learning experience, giving them insight into the latest developments and career opportunities in aviation. The academy will expose students to careers like airline pilot, aircraft maintenance technician, air traffic controller, drone operator, and more.
