Congratulations to the Academy for Environmental Science!
The Academy for Environmental Science, located at Jefferosn High School, received the Clean Communities Excellence in Education Award for their Point 3 Project which focused on the .3% of freshwater contained in surface water (lakes, streams, rivers).
This has been a year-long project that the students have worked on as a result of the data they obtained from the Lake Hopatcong cleanup which was done in the fall. They have been working with local towns, fishermen, and restaurants to help alleviate some of sources of the trash that was most commonly found in the lake. The students presented at the Clean Communities Conference on May 23. Also on this day, in the evening, Academy teacher, Nancy Fitzgerald and Jason Nicholas (Academy engineering teacher) were honored at a dinner and presented the award.
