In honor of deaf history month, today we celebrate Lawrence R Newman. Born in 1925, he was a dedicated deaf rights activist, and served for two terms as President of the National Association of the Deaf.

Today’s quote is from Alice Walker. Born in 1944, she was a poet, author, and activist. She won the National Book Award and The Pulitzer Prize for fiction for her novel, The Color Purple. Her quote today says:

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”

-Alice Walker
