Art and Composition 1
Interested in learning how to draw or expanding on what you already know? This introductory course explores the fundamentals of visual expression in a relaxed, skylit studio environment!
Course Description:
This course provides an initial foundation in two-dimensional expression. Students will practice drawing techniques
through a variety of traditional art mediums. Students will explore compositional elements and principles of design.
through portraiture, figure drawing, perspective, still life models and landscapes. Historical references and
aesthetic inferences are used to enhance knowledge and application.
Course Objectives:

Students will develop drawing techniques that create illusions of depth and volume, in a composition.

Students will identify approaches to observational and conceptual drawing.

Students will practice the four components to an art criticism (Describe, Analyze, Interpret, and Evaluate).

Students will enhance the appearance/message of a composition through value.

Students will become familiar with internet research, personal online galleries and basic portfolio development practices.
